MidiDraft - Free MP3 and WAV to MIDI Converter

MidiDraft is an innovative tool that converts audio files such as MP3 and WAV into editable MIDI drafts. This service allows users to transform their audio ideas into MIDI, which can then be cleaned up and exported for use in various Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs). It is designed to facilitate music creation by making audio-to-MIDI conversion accessible and efficient.

1. Audio File Compatibility

MidiDraft supports a variety of audio formats including MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A, and AAC, with a maximum file size of 30 MB and a length limit of 3 minutes.

2. Single Instrument Focus

The tool works best with clear single instrument recordings or simple melody lines. It is recommended to select a 15–60 second section for optimal accuracy.

3. Voice to MIDI Conversion

Users can hum, sing, or whistle their ideas into the converter, which then translates vocal melodies into MIDI notes. This feature is ideal for capturing melodic ideas quickly.

4. Piano and Guitar to MIDI

MidiDraft allows users to convert recorded piano parts and guitar riffs into MIDI. It is most effective with single-note lines and sparse chords, ensuring that the essence of the original performance is preserved.

5. Batch Conversion

The batch converter feature enables users to convert multiple audio files at once, streamlining the process for those with several clips to work with.

6. Privacy Protection

All conversions are processed locally in the browser, ensuring that audio files are never uploaded to a server, thus maintaining user privacy.

1. Select a clear audio file for the best results.
2. Keep the audio section between 15 to 60 seconds for faster and more accurate conversion.
3. Use isolated recordings for voice, piano, and guitar to improve conversion quality.
4. Experiment with the sensitivity and note length settings to refine the MIDI output.
5. Utilize the batch converter for multiple files to save time.

1. MidiDraft effectively simplifies the audio-to-MIDI conversion process, making it accessible for users with varying levels of expertise.
2. The tool excels in converting clear, single-instrument recordings, providing accurate MIDI drafts that can be further edited.
3. However, the accuracy diminishes with complex mixes or heavily processed audio, which may require additional manual adjustments.
4. While the batch conversion feature is beneficial, it is limited to 10 files at a time, which may not suffice for users with larger projects.
5. Overall, MidiDraft is a valuable tool for musicians looking to translate their audio ideas into MIDI, but users should be aware of its limitations with dense mixes and effects-laden recordings.
