EarDub - Dub Videos Into Your Language

EarDub is an AI-powered video dubbing extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge that translates online videos into a user's preferred language. Designed for YouTube, online courses, and other supported video platforms, it replaces or supplements the original speech with AI-generated voice dubbing synchronized with the video. EarDub supports 75 languages and more than 300 AI voices, helping users understand foreign-language content without relying entirely on subtitles. Its features include context-aware translation, adjustable audio levels, bilingual subtitles, and on-demand playback. The extension also supports selected platforms such as Udemy, Coursera, Bilibili, and X (Twitter), making it useful for language learners, students, and viewers who regularly watch international content.

1. Real-Time AI Video Dubbing

EarDub generates dubbed audio while a video plays, synchronizing translated speech with the speaker. Users can listen in their preferred language without waiting for the entire video to be processed or uploaded.

2. Support for 75 Languages

The extension offers dubbing in 75 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Vietnamese, and Arabic. Automatic source-language detection is available, with the best results reported for English, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish.

3. 300+ AI Voices

EarDub provides more than 300 AI voices, including male and female options and various regional accents. Users can select a voice that suits their listening preferences and the type of content they are watching.

4. Context-Aware Translation

Instead of translating captions one fragment at a time, EarDub combines captions into complete sentences before translating them. This approach is designed to improve contextual accuracy and produce more natural-sounding dubbed speech.

5. Dubbing Videos Without Captions

On paid plans, EarDub can recognize speech directly from a video's audio and generate a translation even when captions are unavailable. This feature excludes unsupported cases such as copy-protected videos and live streams.

6. Adjustable Original and Dubbed Audio

Separate volume controls let users adjust the original audio and the translated voice independently. Viewers can keep the original speaker audible in the background or mute the original track.

7. Bilingual Subtitles

EarDub displays translated subtitles alongside the dubbing, allowing users to listen and read simultaneously. Subtitle text can be adjusted between 14 and 28 pixels or hidden when users prefer audio-only playback.

8. Multi-Platform Compatibility

EarDub works with YouTube and supports other video platforms, including Udemy, Coursera, Bilibili, X, and selected websites that users authorize. It can also handle certain courses behind login screens or paywalls, provided the video is not copy-protected.

9. User-Controlled Activation

Dubbing starts only when the user activates it. The extension runs on YouTube and other websites where permission has been granted, giving users control over when translated audio is enabled.

10. Browser and Device Support

EarDub is available as an extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Android users can also use it through the Vivaldi browser, which supports Chrome extensions. The iPhone, iPad, and YouTube mobile app are not currently supported.

1. Install the EarDub extension from the Chrome Web Store or the supported extension source for your browser.

2. Sign in using a supported Google, Microsoft, or email account, then choose your preferred dubbing language.

3. Open a YouTube video and click the EarDub extension icon in the browser toolbar. Pin the extension if it is hidden in the extensions menu.

4. Click ### Dub this video to activate AI dubbing. On other supported websites, use the relevant permission option if prompted.

5. Select your preferred dubbing language and available AI voice. Adjust the original and dubbed audio volumes to achieve a comfortable listening balance.

6. Enable bilingual subtitles when you want to compare the translated speech with the original content. Adjust the subtitle size or hide the subtitles as needed.

7. If a video has no captions, check whether your subscription includes speech recognition and dubbing without captions. This functionality is not available on the free plan.

8. For online courses, confirm that the platform and video are supported before relying on EarDub for an entire lesson. Copy-protected content and live streams may not work.

What is EarDub?

EarDub is an AI video dubbing extension for Chrome and Edge. It translates video content into a selected language and plays AI-generated speech in sync with the video. It is designed to help users understand YouTube videos, online courses, and other supported web content without depending solely on subtitles.

Is EarDub free to use?

Yes. EarDub offers a free plan with a daily and monthly usage allowance. The free tier supports up to 30 minutes of dubbing per day and 180 minutes per month, with a limit of three videos of up to 60 minutes each. Videos must have captions for the free dubbing feature.

Can EarDub dub videos without subtitles?

Yes. Paid plans include speech recognition that can identify spoken content directly from the video's audio and generate dubbed speech without existing captions. However, this feature does not support every video, particularly copy-protected content and live streams.

Which platforms does EarDub support?

EarDub is built primarily for YouTube and also supports Udemy, Coursera, Bilibili, X (Twitter), and other websites that users authorize. Availability depends on the platform and its technical restrictions.

Can EarDub translate foreign-language videos into English?

Yes. Users can select English as the target dubbing language to listen to videos originally spoken in Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, or other supported languages. EarDub offers English voices with different accents, including US, UK, Indian, and Australian English.

How is EarDub different from YouTube's built-in auto-dubbing?

YouTube's built-in auto-dubbing is available only for videos where creators have enabled the feature, and the available languages and voices depend on YouTube's support. EarDub lets viewers activate dubbing themselves, choose from a broader selection of languages and AI voices, and use the extension on supported websites beyond YouTube.

Does EarDub work on mobile devices?

EarDub supports Android through the Vivaldi browser, which can run Chrome extensions. The iPhone, iPad, and YouTube mobile app are not currently supported.

Can EarDub dub Netflix videos?

No. According to the website, copy-protected services such as Netflix cannot be dubbed. Support also excludes live streams and depends on whether EarDub can access and process the video's audio.

EarDub offers three plans with different usage limits and features.

The free plan is suitable for occasional viewing, while Basic provides a larger allowance for regular video consumption and support for videos without captions. Pro is intended for users who need extensive dubbing without a monthly time limit. Users should consult the official EarDub pricing page for the latest plan details and terms.

1. Strengths: EarDub addresses a practical problem for international video viewers by converting spoken content into a preferred language. Its support for 75 languages, more than 300 AI voices, and multiple video platforms makes it more flexible than tools limited to subtitle translation or a single website.

2. Convenient listening experience: Synchronized dubbing, adjustable audio levels, and bilingual subtitles give users several ways to follow a video. These features are particularly useful for online courses, technical tutorials, lectures, and long-form interviews where reading subtitles continuously can be distracting.

3. Flexible language and voice selection: The ability to choose a dubbing language and voice gives viewers more control over how they consume foreign-language content. However, the actual translation quality and voice naturalness may vary depending on the source audio, language, and video content.

4. Limitations of the free plan: The free allowance is relatively limited for users who watch long videos or multiple lessons each day. Dubbing without captions also requires a paid subscription, so users who frequently encounter videos without subtitles may need to upgrade.

5. Platform and device restrictions: Although EarDub supports several websites, compatibility is not universal. Copy-protected videos and live streams are excluded, and native support for iPhone, iPad, and the YouTube app is unavailable. These restrictions may affect users who primarily watch videos on mobile devices.

6. Overall assessment: EarDub is a useful AI YouTube dubbing extension for people who want to understand foreign-language videos without constantly reading subtitles. Its multilingual support, voice selection, and on-demand playback are practical advantages. Before subscribing, users should test the free plan with their preferred languages and video platforms to determine whether the dubbing quality, compatibility, and usage limits meet their needs.
